it is a six-minute (in its original album version) slow ballad-like love song that in part pays tribute to the late Motown artist Marvin Gaye and the sound he helped to establish. The song was recorded before Gaye’s murder a year later. Band member Gary Kemp wrote this when he was in the middle of an unrequited love affair. The lyric, “Take your seaside arms and write the next line” was taken from a line from Nabokov’s novel Lolita.
